The Stupid Thing is a small instrument I built to create a sort of redneck tribute to the work of Harry Bertoia. But where Bertoia’s work channels the behavior of waves of grain, or gentle flora, the Stupid Thing tends to behave like a small tuft of obstinate weeds. It can be played by shaking, scraping, bowing, or general physical agitation.
